A Day in the Life of Room 1322 Our community of learners works together each day in reader's workshop, writer's workshop, math and a theme (science or social studies). We incorporate the arts to reinforce our academic learning. Students receive specialized instruction in movement, music, visual arts, drama, phy ed, and computer. Our class includes language academy students. These newer English language learners are mainstreamed for all learning activities throughout the day. Our teachers are Mrs. Wells(classroom) and Ms. Parling (ELL). They team teach together throughout the day. Writer's Workshop - We write every day. We write in a writer's notebook, and study several genres during the year. We study personal narrative, procedural, non-fiction and poetry writing genres. Reader's Workshop - We listen to read-aloud stories and learn how to understand them. We read Big Books and poems together as shared reading, and read them to Ms. Yee's kindergarten class weekly. We meet in small groups and read books at our level (guided reading). We read individually from our book bags, and write responses. Word Skills - We learn to spell. We learn about words using a phonics program. Math - We learn about numbers and problem solving using the Everyday Math series. We play math games, and complete pages in our math journal. Theme- Science or Social Studies- Currently we are learning about the life cycles of animals. We are watching the life cycle of meal worms. |
